‘Every good act is charity,’ but keep it to yourself

The French actor, playwright and writer Molière once said, “Every good act is charity. A man’s true wealth hereafter is the good that he does in the world to his fellows.” When it comes to giving back, one can never go wrong. That is, unless we are boastful about it.If you throw gobs of money at worthwhile causes, kudos to you! Those of you who spend countless hours volunteering at shelters, children’s organizations and hospitals, bravo! If you are recognized for your quietly done deeds, icing on the cake. But please do refrain from offering a detailed list of your tax-deductable contributions on Facebook or droning on over cocktails about the 400 hours of community service you’ve racked up in the past months rescuing puppies. Those who love you and know you well are aware of your generosity. Isn’t that enough?

Cheers!
