As you probably know if you’ve visited Re-find lately, we’ve been combing the South to soak up its hospitality, manners, charm and grace. This often hot and humid region of the U.S. is not only famous for its climate, but also the warmth and gentility of its inhabitants. Since we hail from Kentucky, you’ll of course need to give us a hall pass on our extreme bias toward the South. We just can’t help it.
Today, let’s talk about keeping your stylish cool when it’s oh, so hot outside. Every proper Southern lady knows that when it comes to beating the heat, while still looking fresh and fab, one must begin her day with a cool shower and a little baby powder in all of the right places.
Next, be sure to dress appropriately. Cotton and other natural fabrics are your best friend and don’t you forget it. Pack on the polyester and you’ll wilt like a thirsty hydrangea.
Finally, less is always more when it comes to makeup, even in cooler temps. Spend your hard-earned money on the best skin care regime you can afford (we adore l’Oreal), then use it (cleanse, tone and moisturize morning and night, plus get regular facials or do a weekly exfoliation and mask at home). All of the above will help you start with flawless skin. Be sure to always, always use sunscreen. We know you love to get your bronze on, but any tan is skin damage. We are quite certain you don’t want to look like a leather saddle bag at any stage of life. No?
By the time you get to the makeup portion of your beauty ritual, use just a hint of foundation or powder, a bit of blush and a dab or two of lip gloss. Finish with a tiny swipe of eye shadow and, or mascara, if you use it. As the day wears on, blot as needed or, just embrace that dewy look. Finally, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drink loads of water — and maybe the occasional mint julep — followed by more water.
If all else fails ladies, run cold water over your wrists or hold them against that cool water or mint julep glass. Also, don’t be afraid to use gorgeous, handheld vintage fan. Think of it as a conversation piece and bust out your best Scarlet O’Hara.
Cheers!
